The 33rd Annual Metro Nashville Football Coaches Association presented the 2017 All-City team and honorable mention team members and inducted three new members into the Metro Nashville Football Coaches Hall of Fame Thursday, December 7, 2017.
Steve Chauncey (administrator), Donnie Keeton (coach) and Chris Coutras (contributor) were presented to a full house of coaches and players who gathered at the Gaylord Springs Golf Course Club House to dine on a fine meal and socialize in setting other than a football field.
Steve Chauncy is the Executive Administrator of Hillwood High School and is the TSSAA representative for the fifth district for the Board of Controls. He is a graduate of East High school and has been the Executive Principal for Hillwood since 2007. The Hilltoppers Head Coach, Kurt Page, introduced Dr. Chauncy who spoke to the importance of the community of athletics. He cited the brotherhood that existed in the room as evidence of the community that the young men in the room were a part of and he remark that it was a blessing to be a part of this group.
Chris Coutras, son of Nick Coutras the former coach Overton High School played for the Bobcats under his father.
While not a coach himself, Coutras was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contributions as a contributor financially and as a supporter of the game. Courts was obviously humbled by the award and gave the audience a brief history the Nick Coutras Awards which he curates in honor of his father. He thanked those who work to keep this foundation and scholarship award viable reiterating that he is only the face of the award but that many others contribute. Both recipients received a well earned round of applause.
Pearl Cohn’s Ninth Grade Football Team was honored as the 9th Grade City Champion with the City Gold Ball Trophy that has an engraved plaque of each year’s winner on it and is on display at the winning school for a year until presented at the next season’s banquet.
Other special awards include a presentation of the Coach of the Year Award to Eddie Woods, Head Coach of Cane Ridge High School. This is his second year to win this award and was honored this year for taking Cane Ridge’s Ravens to the BlueCross Bowl in Cookeville.
Below are the special awards given to the honorees Thursday night. Awards were given to each player by the Athletic Directo of MNPS, Roosevelt Sanders. The banquet was sponsored by Coca Cola.
