NASHVILLE, Tenn – Friday night Hillsboro football seniors and team lit up the score board with 62 points shutting out Region 5 opponent Hillwood to give the fans one of the most memorable Senior Nights in recent history. The Burros scored a total of nine touchdowns and headed into halftime with eight of these touchdowns already posted, the most of the season yet.

From the special celebration held for the senior football players, cheerleaders and marching band members to the guest coin toss by Hillsboro’s councilman Charles Pulley, the evening’s flawless start set the tone for a high scoring game and the Burros rose to the challenge.

Gyasai Mattison scores on an 80 yard reception from Darius Smith for a touchdown. This was the first of two TDs for Mattison.

Hillsboro scattered the scoring utilizing weapons Darius Smith (#15 QB) who scored  twice on rushes (7yds,; 16 yds.) and three TD passes: an 80 yard bomb to Gyasai Mattison (#1). a second pass to Mattison for 10 yards to round out his scoring and the only score in the second half, a 15 yard pass to Tre Dickerson (#7). Smith finished the night with 253 yards, completed 9 of 15 passes, 5 touchdowns.

Mattison, Smith and Frazier weren’t the only Burros to score. Harold Jemison had a 1 yard rush for a TD and DB speedster, Jeremiah Edwards scooped up a squibbed Hillwood punt to run 20 yards for a highlight worthy touchdown.  Tennessee’s 4th ranked running back Jacob Frazier had only 2 touchdowns in the first half with eleven touches.

Defensively, Joseph Honeysucker, TJ Neal and Raveyon Thomas all had stand out games. Honeysucker led the defense with 4.5 tackles, 4 solo tackles, 2 sacks with 2.5 of the tackles for a loss.  TJ Neal also had 4 tackles, 4 solo tackles, 2 sacks and 3 tackles for a loss. Rayveyon Thomas has 3 solo tackles all for losses.

Next Friday, October 28, 2017, the Burros travel to Hunters Lane High School to play their last Regional game and last regular season game for a 7:00 start.

Saturday, October 29, TSSAA will publish the brackets for the playoffs and the Hillsboro Globe will have all the relevant information for playoffs  – stay tuned.
