Landslide wins set up Hillsboro High School Baseball for District run

This year’s Hillsboro’s Burros baseball team is nobody’s fool. The Burros racked up two more grand slam victories Monday and Tuesday,  beating district opponent Antioch 12-0 and 13-1. This season, Hillsboro has already bested last year’s district record improving their district record to 4-0 versus last year’s District 11 record of 0-8.  The team has accrued an impressive 13 wins and are midway through the season. Their only loss so far was to Overton way back in March at a tournament held during Spring Break. The Burros held the Antioch Bears to 1 run in two games nearly earning a two to a two-game shut-out. The wins are becoming familiar territory for the Burros who now have seven wins in a row.

Luke Lawson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn’t allow any walks). Lawson was also stellar in the batter’s box, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and a stolen base.

Henry Wible, also contributed significantly scoring three runs while going 2-for-3 as well as Jack Henry Brasher, scoring two runs and stolen a base while going 2-for-3.

Mondays’ win over Antioch was due, in part to a hot bat and savvy base running.   The Burros are averaging 12.3 runs a game and traveled to Antioch Tuesday where they As for Antioch, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Hillsboro will play Franklin away Friday night and will assess how they match up regionally.  The next home game is Monday, April 8 is a district matchup against Hunter Lane High School. Game time is 4:00 pm and games are free.
