Cedars of Lebanon State Park is located in Wilson County and is part of the Cedars of Lebanon State Forest. The park is named for Eastern Red Cedar trees found throughout the area. The trees reminded early American settlers of the famed Biblical cedar forests that thrived across Mount Lebanon in what is now the Mediterranean area.  Cedars of Lebanon became a state park in 1955.

In addition, certain areas will have trails that lead to a golf course forest area, which can be used for fun recreational activities such as tag or hide and seek.

In other areas, there are playgrounds for children, and various places to relax.

“Eight miles of hiking trails meander through the cedar forests and glades. There are four trails in the park where you may catch a glimpse of fox, deer, squirrel, rabbits and turkey throughout the park. Picnicking is another popular activity. All picnic tables are equipped with grills and there are also 11 picnic shelters located throughout the park. Three of the picnic shelters can be reserved for a fee.” – tnstateparks.gov

If you’re feeling adventurous then there are two mile trails: one for hiking and the other for running.  In addition to hiking, you’ll come across nineteen rare and endangered species of plants not seen often anywhere else. The area is comprised of natural rock gardens called cedar glades that result in the low amount of soil in the area. This becomes a great place for exploring.

Finally, there is a swimming pool, and shop with s’more materials, firewood, and various things to purchase.

Sarah Ottinger said, “I live for moments like this” when pursuing the perfect sunset and start watching location. Besides that there are several areas to rest and talk with family and friends.
