If you like anime, more specifically action-packed fight scenes, incredible animation, and listening to Japanese music, you should watch One Piece: Film Red. The film’s setting takes place on an island called “Elegia”. The island is titled “the island of music” since the island is known for its music and the famous artists who came from that island. From a real-life perspective, One Piece: Film Red was animated in Japan.
In the movie, many characters stand out in the franchise, but some of the more noticeable figures are Monkey D. Luffy (the main character and the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates), Uta (a popular singer), Red-Haired Shanks (one of the most powerful pirates in the world), and many more recognizable figures.
One Piece Film: Red takes place in a world filled with pirates where Uta, a famous singer who hosts her first live concert on the “Island of Music,” Elegia. While fans, pirates, and the Marines (the navy) gather, the Straw Hats, which is Luffy’s pirate crew, learn of Uta’s connection to Shanks and the shocking truth behind her seemingly peaceful dream. As Uta’s concert unfolds, she reveals her plan to use her music to force the world into a new era by imprisoning everyone in a dream world, leading to a fight with Luffy and his other crewmates.
The World Government in One Piece is described as corrupt through its World Nobles, descendants of the government who are dismissed by law and practice slavery. It’s use of the “Seven Warlords” system. Which are pirates or criminals who have been pardoned for government service. The governments ban studying history and gaining knowledge of the blank, undocumented, 100-year period known as the Void Century.
The navy even went to a certain length by destroying an entire island because the people wanted to research this topic. This event was called the “Buster Call on Ohara.” Where a fleet of navy ships blasted away and killed innocent lives while trying to get rid of the research these people have found. This is reason why Red-Haired Shanks says in the movie, “There is no piece or equality in this world.” After the navy threatens to kill his daughter.
As Uta is capturing these people to put in her dream world they refuse because they wanted to live ordinary lives and they felt that the pressure of Uta putting on them to stay was too much. She tries to pursue them by saying “Why would you go back to a hard life when you can enjoy it here?”
You should watch this movie because the main theme of the movie is liberation or freedom. This theme seems to be popular amongst its series and other movies. One Piece: Film Red was released on November 4, 2022, in America and July 22, 2022, in Japan and Canada. You can currently watch it on Netflix and Crunchyroll now.
Fun facts: Uta has 2 voice actors the first being Amanda Lee in the English version for casual conversation and in the Japanese version Ado, Japan’s most popular singer does casual talk and sings for both versions.
Did you know? Although Uta is in this movie and is a character in the One Piece franchise, she isn’t actually a character in the main storyline.
