Top Ten Classic Christmas Films to Revisit

Every year the holiday season rolls around, these are my top ten Christmas picks for films to revisit this holiday.

  1. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Every good story has a heel, and nothing screams heel more than Jim Carrey’s Grinch. Carrey brings an electric bounciness to the Grinch that had never been seen before that cemented his green hairy rump in the homes of millions during the Christmas season.

2. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is the MVP of Christmas. Not negotiable. This Christmas TV special holds a unique place in the hearts of millions, some are terrified some are into it, but all tune in to see his bright red nose.

3. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

There’s something special about A Charlie Brown Christmas and I think we all know what it is, the spirit of Christmas itself. Charlie Brown teaches the valuable lesson of gratitude even when things aren’t perfect.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is a topic for debate on whether it’s a Christmas film or a Halloween movie, and my response is… why not both? The film’s main premise revolves around Christmas anyway.

5. Gremlins (1984)

Are you even celebrating if you aren’t watching an iconic fun and wacky Christmas flick from the 80’s including some creature of some sort? and what’s more “creature” than Gremlins? Gremlins had a firm grasp on households for the duration of its existence including Gremlins 2 released in 1990.

6. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Jim Henson is a visionary and anything he puts his hand in -literally- is sure to be a classic to view at home with your family.

7. Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas (1999)

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas tells a series of criminally understated tales about Christmas, ranging from a loss of belief in Santa to a magical finale consisting of outstanding musical performances from the characters featured in the film. A definitive Christmas masterpiece.

8. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

While some might argue that the original Home Alone is the best installment of the series, none can hold a candle to the all-time Home Alone GOAT, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. While there’s nothing wrong with the original, the second movie brings much more wonder and pizzazz to the predicament Kevin puts himself into and also has many more iconic scenes!

9. A Christmas Story (1983)

A Christmas Story is a treat to all, adults and kids alike. From tounges stuck to poles to Red Ryder air rifles, this Christmas Story is a great nostalgic family flick to watch at home.

10. Elf (2003)

You can’t mention Christmas movies without throwing Elf into the conversation. Will Ferrell’s performance as Buddy the Elf made him an instant hit across the globe as a harbinger of the Christmas spirit because what’s Christmas without “SANTAAAA!”.
