The Lions of Christ Presbyterian Academy (4-2, 1-0 Division II-AA Middle Region) found itself on the wrong side of a two point margin Friday night when they played Hillsboro Burros. The two point differential that was determined early in the game by a safety claimed by defensive end, Joseph Honeysucker, not helped the Burros claim early momentum in the game, but the 2 points would be the deciding factor that kept the game from overtime.
Hillsboro never trailed in the game.
Strong offensive performances came from key players Darrius Smith, quarterback for Hillsboro who demonstrated better leadership skills on the field and threw for 70 yards and passed for 1 TD, and also had an 11 yard TD.
Jacob Frazier proved once again he is the work horse of the team throwing up a stunning 310 yards in 34 touches. He found the end zone twice Friday night and averaged nearly 10 yards a carry (9.5).
Gayasai Mattison had only three touches with the ball, one of these led to a touchdown and 33 yards.
Offensively, CPA was all Ryan Eledge, who completed 17 of 34 passes for 2 TDs and 235 yards and 0 INTs.
The Burros evened their record to .500 and CPA dropped its 2nd game in three weeks to an MNPS school after a strong showing against a physical win over DII school, Ensworth, earlier in the year.
The Burros (3-3, 1-1 Region 6-5A) head north next week to play a game against Beech (6-0). The win against CPA is a strong win for the Burros.
