The VU Commodores keep pn making history, No. 15/16 Vanderbilt bested Auburn 45–38 in an overtime game at FirstBank Stadium, marking the Commodores’ first back-to-back wins over the Tigers since 1949–50 and their first eight-win season since 2013.
Quarterback Diego Pavia’s led the ‘Dores with another record-breaking performance, testing Auburn’s defense in a contest that saw crazy momentum swings that led to an exciting overtime win. Pavia accrued a career-high 489 total yards—377 through the air and 112 on the ground—becoming the first Vanderbilt player since at least 1996 to pass the 300 passing and 100 rushing yards in a single game.
After Auburn deferred the opening kickoff and again chose to play defense first in overtime, and Vandy’s Sedrick Alexander clocked his second rushing touchdown of the day to give the Commodores a 45–38 lead. The defense rose to the moment and held Auburn’s offense securing the win and earning Vanderbilt’s first OT win since 2024.
The Commodores’ offense was electric, amassing 544 total yards—their most against an SEC opponent since 2016. Wideouts Tre Richardson (124 yards) and tight end Eli Stowers (122 yards) both crossed the century mark, a feat not seen since 2021. Stowers also became the first Vandy tight end since at least 1996 to record 100+ receiving yards in back-to-back games and to haul in 10+ catches in a single outing.
On defense, Bryan Longwell led with 12 tackles, while Langston Patterson added 11 and surpassed 200 career stops. Vanderbilt forced two fumbles, including the first of Keanu Koht’s career, and recorded sacks from Bryce Cowan and CJ Heard.
With the win, Vanderbilt improved to 8–2, its best 10-game start since 1930, and handed Auburn its first game allowing more than 24 points this season.
