On February 6th & 7th Hillsboro High School hosted their first-ever CTE Academy Fair, this all-day event will give freshmen and upcoming sophomores a chance to give thought to what pathway they want to follow. The Event is being held in the Big Gym for the whole day.
CTE – or Career & Technical Education – prepares students for the workforce across a wide range of industries and professions. Through the Academies of Nashville, our Hillsboro high school students have access to a wide range of pathways, in four academies ranging from healthcare to business finance preparing them for high-skill, high-wage, high-demand careers in our region.
The Academy Fair allowed freshmen to speak one on one with HHS seniors to hear first hand what the academies at HHS have to offer. This conversation is one component of several opportunities students will have to help them decide what academy and pathway they would like to pursue.
This overview event was held in the gymnasium and was completely student led from the booth set up and table decorations to the posters and handouts seniors provided for students to dig a little deeper into the high level academies and were represented by the Academy of International Communications, Academy of Health Sciences and the Academy of International Baccalaureate. Pathways include:
-
Academy of Global Health & Science
- Interdisciplinary Science and Research
- Therapeutic Services
- Sports and Human Performance
-
US Community Credit Union Academy of International Business & Communications
- Banking and Finance
- Audio/Visual Production
- Marketing Management
Students from each and academy and pathway recruited underclassmen to join their program and it gave students a real world perspective by being able to see sample work from the variety of different classes offered. As one senior commented, “This is a very big deal; this is the first time Hillsboro has ever done something like this. And it seems to be going well. There is a lot of engagement between the seniors and freshman. Hopefully, we are going to help them decide to what to choose. It’s always helpful when you like what class you are in.” All academies fall under the umbrella of CTE.
