NASHVILLE, TENN– As the sun sets on an exhilarating season, the Hillsboro High School Girls Soccer team has etched its name in history once more by repeating a solid season, and clinching another District 10 AAA Championship for the second consecutive year. With an impressive overall record of 14-3-1, the team showcased their talent and determination, marking their fourth appearance at the Region 5 tournament.
The season began with dominant home performances, where the team posted a home record of 7-1, fueled by an electrifying seven-game winning streak. However, the streak faced an unexpected challenge in the semi-finals against the formidable Gallatin Green Wave, leading to a heart-wrenching loss that ended their remarkable journey.
Despite this setback, more than a few standout athletes played at a consistently high-level throughout the season, proving that the loss in the Region 5 game does not define their success.
Leading the charge all season was senior Serenity Safeeullah, who dazzled fans with an incredible 32 goals and 5 assists and committed early to North Alabama University to play soccer.
Eboni Donaldson demonstrated her versatility and playmaking abilities with an equal balance of 15 goals and 15 assists. Alice Lander, Lucy Hunt, and Maeve Kennedy also made significant contributions, each bringing their unique skills to the field and enhancing the team’s overall performance.
Under the experienced guidance of Head Coach Paul Troy in his 8th year and Assistant Coach Madelyn Harriger in her 3rd, the team enjoyed a solid win percentage of 81%. Their commitment to foundational skills, strong teamwork, and a never-give-up resilience has laid a solid foundation for the future of Hillsboro High School Girls Soccer.
As we look ahead, the achievements of this “herstory” making team will be remembered, not just for the titles, but for the heart and spirit they poured into every game. They’ve not only made history by winning the first-ever District Championship in 2023 and the repeat in 2024 was no surprise.
Hillsboro High School, a Metro Nashville public school built in 1939, has many long standing traditions of district, region and state titles, and have now added girls soccer to that tradition of winning. This year’s seniors have embedded not just a tradition of winning, but putting the team over any specific individual as the way to win.
Here’s to a season filled with pride, passion, and unforgettable memories! Go, Hillsboro Burros!
