During the 2022 season, Hillsboro High Schools Volleyball team made a historic run to the state tournament. They ended the season ranked 4th out of all the schools in Tennessee. Many fans were left excited to see what would come out of the next year for this team.
After the season ended, Hillsboro’s head coach Sarah Rucker, took the new job position to be the head coach at Brentwood High School (TN). For the first time in 12 years, Hillsboro’s Volleyball team was left with no coaches.
After a few months, the athletes were introduced to the new head coach, Morgan Mammosser. Summer practices started up and the players got to learn more about this new coaching style. Senior outside/DS, Lev Longenecker, said, “She [Coach Morgan] is really supportive and is very direct when coaching.
She is fun to be around and is always positive. It helped the team because we feel comfortable making mistakes and we are able to improve without feeling pressured.” When asked about how the team has adjusted to Coach Morgans’s style, senior right side, Jaela Atagi, said, “I think it started off slow and we missed a lot of summer training, but since then, we have connected well with her, and are adjusting to her coaching style. Overall, we are doing pretty good and excited for the rest of the season!”
Coach Morgan’s new style must be working because Hillsboro’s Volleyball Team has been having a great season. As of right now (October 4, 2023), they have an overall record of 14-7, 13-1 in the district, and ranked 2nd in the district. As this team slowly rebuilds and grows into a new era, I think we should all be excited to see what Coach Morgan brings to this program.
