Hillsboro suffers a blow, losing to Independence 49-21

Friday night had the Burro Dome filled to the brim with eighth graders from each of the Hillsboro feeder schools to cheer on the Burros but a crowd full of future Burros from John Trotwood Moore, West End Middle Prep and a full student section was not enough to dampen the hot arm Independence quarterback Nathan Cisco.
Cisco’s performance was near perfect throwing 18-of-24 passing, 332 yards and 5 TDs in 49-21 was just too much for the Burros to overcome.
The Burros had their moments improving in the turnover column. Hillsboro was able to put up some passing and rushing yardage, too. Averaging better than his mean average 8.2 yards per carry, Jacob Frazier had earned 2 TDs, in 17 carries for 184 averaging 10.8 yards a carry. Frazier also had 5 receptions for 52 yards earning 236 all purpose yards.
Darius Smith, Hillsboro’s quarterback completed 13 for 23 passes for 196 yards and 1 TD for 37 yards to Gyasai Mattison and 2 interceptions.
Defensively, Head Coach Maurice Fitzgerald was pleased with TJ Neal’s play and no quit attitude. “I saw improvement and he had good night. He played hard every down.” TJ Neal finished the night with 7.5 Tackles, 7 solo tackles, 1 assist, 4.5 TFL, .05 sack.
Next Friday is Homecoming and the Burros will host Glencliff at home. Festivities begin at 6:15 follow our Twitter site @hillsboroglobe for more information about the dance, the court presentation and more.
