Meet your 2021-2022 Hillsboro High School Athletic Coaching Staff
TENNIS– Adrian Bahan is a teacher at Hillsboro IB World School and has been the tennis coach for the last 3 years. He has been at Hillsboro for 12 years and teaches in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Bahan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from Austin Peay University and a Masters of Science degree from Austin Peay in Educational CurriculumMasters in Educational Curriculum. Humanities Teacher (APHG, U.S. Gov, Current Events) In 2021, Adrian Bahan was the Co-Coach for Tennis (Boys Team) earning a District 12 AAA championship. Graduate of Hillsboro High School and would be a river steamboat captain if not a teacher and coach in MNPS.
CHEER – Coach Boyd is Hillsboro High School’s Head Cheer Coach and is an integral member of the Freshman Academy. She is entering her third year as Head Cheer Coach and has been a member of HHS faculty for four years. Coach Dowdy-Boyd holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Organization from Bethel University; MAT from Trevecca University; a secondary English Literature degree from Tennessee State University and a Master of Science in CIA. She was once a professional background singer and believes that everyone is important.
FOOTBALL- Anthony Brown is a history and Geography teacher at Hillsboro High School and is an MNPS graduate of Glencliff High School, class of 2000. In June of 2021, Brown was appointed to the position of Head Football. Prior to his appointment as Head Coach, he served as an assistant coach from 2018 – 2021 Brown attended and played football for Tennessee State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication and Theatre. He has ten years of teaching experience. In addition to his BA from TSU, Coach Brown also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Belmont University. This is the fourteenth year of coaching sports for Coach Brown. He previously coached at Glencliff and Maplewood. Brown is the father of twin boys who attend JT Moore Middle School. He is a BBQ fanatic and enthusiast.
GIRLS SOCCER – Amanda Casteel, assistant soccer coach and JV soccer coach has been a teach of English at Hillsboro High School for two years. This is her first year of coaching.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Masters of Science Education in Literacy
BOWLING & GOLF– Joyce Claassen is entering her fourth year as Hillsboro High School’s bowling coach and assistant golf coach. She is also the Head Librarian for the Burros. She has been the librarian for the past nine years. Ms. Claassen holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Lipscomb University and a Masters of Library Science from Trevecca University. Coach Classeen was named Teacher of the Year 2009 as the Librarian at Sylvan Park, Teacher of the Year at Hillsboro 2018, MNPS High School Librarian of the year 2019. She is an avid section hiker of the Appalachian Trail and was the captain and goalie of the first high school girls soccer team in Jacksonville, Florida,
FOOTBALL-Dr. Scott Davis is new to the Hillsboro High School Football team this year and is also new to Hillsboro IB World School. Though new to Hillsboro, Dr. Davis has 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. Previously, he was a Head Football Coach at LaSalle High Schoool, Alexandria Senior High School, Lakeview High School and Glencliff High School. Dr. Davis holds several degrees.
He earned his undergraduate degree at ULM with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He earned his master’s degree at Leo University in Sports Business and his doctorate in Physical Education Administration at Carson Newman University.
He was 1st Team All SLC 84, 85, 86, All American 85, 5 seasons with undefeated seasons, 1 as a Head Coach FB / LCS 2008 State Champions. He grew up in Central Louisiana and moved my family to Nashville, in 1992. I have always been passionate about football, hunting, and my family! FCA has been a large part of my coaching career.
CROSS COUNTRY, TRACK & FIELD – Monique Ferrell is currently the Hillsboro High School’s Athletic Director, Head Coach of Cross Country, and Head Coach of Girls and Boys Track and Field.
She is the Department Lead for Exceptional Education at Hillsboro High School. She has coached numerous Metro Nashville Public Schools for fifteen years and has been a coach for 15 years coaching at various schools. She holds degrees in Ag. design, SPED, and Admin supervision.
Coach Ferrell has been named Track Coach of the Year four times. Coach of the year four times.
ATHLETICS- Maurice Fitzgerald is an institution in Nashville public education and sports. He has coached 26 years as a head coach at Pearl Cohn High School, Stratford High School, and Hillsboro IB World School. He is a graduate of Hume Fogg High School, a Hume Award nominee and is a graduate from Tennessee State University where he played college football.
He has won two state championships, 96′ 97′ while coaching at Pearl Cohn, and has mentored numerous assistant coaches who have gone on to become head coaches in the greater Nashville area.
In addition to mentoring coaches, through his foundation, In Full Motion, Coach Fitzgerald along with his wife Cynthia, have tutored and mentored hundreds of students in the preparation for attending college. Their method, which introduces ACT testing skills at middle school age has been highly successful. Coach Fitzgerald after the 2020 season to grow his ability to mentor more young men and women to reach their goals following their high school experience.
Coach Fitzgerald has coached numerous players who have gone on to careers in the NFL including Jacksonville Jaquer John Henderson an 8-time pro bowler; Denver Broncos running back Santonio Beard, Seattle Seahawks safety, and Ugo Amadi.
TRACK AND FIELD – Martinique Guice is in her second year as a Track and Field Coach and is an Exceptional Education Specialist at Hillsboro IB World School. She is a former Track and Field coach at Cameron College Prep and Goodlettsville Middle. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee State University and a Masters of Arts degree from Austin Peay State University.
She is a seven-time OVC long jump and 100m champion! She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is also big fan of the University of Florida Gators and is the daughter of an Olympian. She loves all sports and is especially fond of children.
BOWLING & SOFTBALL – Ryan Harris is a beloved Hillsboro High School coach of Bowling (11 years) and Softball12 years) He has been a teacher at Hillsboro for 13 years. Prior to teaching at Hillsboro, he was an assistant football coach at Cumberland University for two years. Harris is a Lambuth University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his Master in Education at Cumberland University masters and his Masters in Special Education at Lipscomb University. He has coached football, wrestling, bowling, and softball in my time here at Hillsboro.
He has been named the Bowling 11AAA District Coach of the Year 2011, District 12AAA Softball District Coach of the Year 2016 and 2017. Coach Harris is the father of two amazing daughters, Piper and Bea, and has been married 11 years to his wife Claire.
GIRLS BASKETBALL, GIRLS & BOYS GOLF – Sharon “Missy” Humphreys has just completed her 15th year as Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach at Hillsboro IB World School. She has been coaching for 30 years and ha coached girls basketball in addition to golf. Prior to Hillsboro Coach Humphrey coached at Portland High School, Lone Oak High School (KY), Reidland High School (Ky), and Murray State University.
She has earned several awards over the 30 years of coaching. She was named the Basketball Coach of the Year and the Assistant Coach of the Year for the state of Tennessee. She has coached girls basketball to a state championship in 2009 and has been named District Golf Coach of the Year 7 times. Ms. Humprhrey attended Murray State University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, her Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology, and is the Advanced Academics Coordinator for the IB Diploma Programme at Hillsboro High School.
FOOTBALL – Rashad Mason, Sr. is the Offensive Coordinator and wide-receiver coach at Hillsboro High School. He has been coaching the Burros for three years. Mason holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in African and Afro-American studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from North Carolina. As a college recruit, he ranked 8th as a wide receiver in the class of 2007 and was the highest-ranked wide receiver to commit to UNC. He is a Class of 2007 Super Prep All-American, ranked the #18 receiver in the country by Rivals and #4 in the state of Tennessee. He is a member of the Class of 2007 Rivals 250 Club.
He has coached numerous post-secondary athletes including Jashon Watkins-Perkins (University of Memphis 2018), Tyler Fletcher (Navy 2019), Demick Starling (University of Virginia 2019), Lester (Trey) Shaw (Eastern Illinois University 2019), and Adrian Huey (University of Kentucky 2020).
Coach Mason is married to Kourtney Mason with who he has two children, Kahlia Mason, and Rashad Mason Jr.
BASEBALL – Coach Martin was recently named to the Integrated Math team at Hillsboro and named as the Head Baseball Coach for Hillsboro IB World School on September 24, 2001. This is his first year as a head coach.
Coach Martin comes to Hillsboro from North Fort Myers High School. Martin holds a degree in secondary mathematics from Florida Gulf Coast University. In 2016, Martin’s high school won the 7A state championship in Florida.
He enjoys traveling and visiting National Parks across the United States and is a Lego enthusiast.
WRESTLING – Edward Miller has been an assistant wrestling coach for the past three years at Hillsboro High School and also coached 5 years at Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet. Mr. Miller is currently an English teacher at Hillsboro High School.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Language from Tennessee State University. Like Coach Brown, Mr. Miller is an avid cook and loves cooking different foods in his outdoor smoker.
VOLLEYBALL – Sarah Rucker is entering her 10th year as Hillsboro High School’s Head Volleyball coach. She has been coaching for 17 years and has won the 12 AAA District titles twice. She has also been named volleyball district coach of the year twice. She currently teaches Spanish at Hillsboro IB World School. She is a graduate of USF Tampa and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Language Education.
Coach Rucker loves to travel and has taken student-athletes to Spain. She also loves running summer camps because of the relationships built during camp.
WRESTLING – Alex Seely joined the faculty at Hillsboro High School in 2021 and is an assistant wrestling coach. Previous to this, Coach Seely was a head coach for 5 years at Briar Woods High School in Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Christopher Newport University. He is currently teaching history and economics at Hillsboro High School.
He has two dogs and hates anything with vinegar. ” I won’t eat anything vinegar flavored.”
