The 2023 TSSAA Boys State Championship tipped off the quarterfinal play Tuesday. Metro Nashville Athletics has three teams who secured their bid to state and the MLK Magnet Royals were the first to play They will be followed by our own Hillsboro Burros and Pearl Cohn Firebirds. They have been the quiet winners who advanced as underdogs most of the year, but they and the drought of state appearances for the last 18 years making a huge showing with the quarterfinal game against White County.

The Royals got off to a sluggish and their first basket was a 3-point jumper made by Azariah Anderson with just 2:30 left to play in the first quarter.

A few adjustments by Head Coach Caden Anderson, secured a strong finish before the half with a 20 -17 lead over White Co.

When the 3rd quarter ended, MLK had outscored White Co. 32 – 15. White County made its own run in the 4th quarter whittling a 22-point MLK lead down to 7. Another 3-point jumper by Anderson swayed the momentum back to MLK. The Royals capitalized on free throws and secured another day of play on Thursday where they take on Fulton at 4:30 in Murphy Center.
