Burros Tennis Season with strong sets and 2-0 District play

Metro Nashville Public Schools is rich in the tradition of athletics that reaches far beyond the football and basketball games that are so easily associated with school spirit.

What many do not know is that the season of spring offers 7 varieties of team sports for students to participate including Boys and Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Track & Field; Baseball, Softball, and Boys Soccer.

Often if a spectator times it right, he or she can visit a school and  move from event to event taking in Track, Soccer, Softball, Baseball, and Tennis all in one day!

This week the Burro Boys Tennis team opened its District play  season by having a field day at Glencliff this afternoon Monday, defeating the Colts 7-0.

 In singles play, the boys outscored the Colts 40 games to 4!  Congrats to Vincent Gorkos, Caleb Turney, Chet Weachter, Dawson Ford, and Patrick Nzita for big wins.

 In doubles, the match of the day featured Eric Holt and Peter Kerr coming from behind to win 9-7.

The Burros dominated in two other doubles matches with Lucas Herculano and Francis Baniqued topping their opponents 8-3 and Charlie Eichman and Jared Ross downing their foes 8-2.

 Notes: Next match is Thursday, March 22, at home against Hillwood.

 The Burro Boys moved to 2-0 with their second sweep of the season, topping the Hilltoppers of Hillwood 7-0.

 All singles players, Vincent Gorkos, Caleb Turney, Chet Weachter, and Dawson Ford, remained perfect on the season, outscoring Hillwood’s boys by a whopping total of 32 games to 2!

 In doubles, the Burro teams of Eric Holt / Peter Kerr and Lucas Herculano / Patrick Nzita cruised to easy victories as well with 8-3 and 8-2 victories respectively.

 Next up home matches versus Hunters Lane on Monday and Maplewood on Wednesday.
