National Day News- Skip the Straw Day

Today on February 24, we dedicate this day to be more open minded about our only home, the Earth. Skip the Straw Day is the day where people who work to keep the coral, ask you to find an alternative way to drink your beverages. Straws, specifically, have had a major toll on the ocean. Since plastics aren’t biodegradable, they stay in the ocean or break down into very fine microscopic pieces. Many birds, fish, and other marine life mistake plastic as food, and when ingested, it negatively impacts sea life’s reproductive systems.

People everyday go out to the ocean to collect trash, but pollution is a constant cycle, and in order to keep this planet healthy, we need to change and adapt to better products for everyday use.

Today, and everyday, you can make a small but very effective change by picking up even a couple pieces of trash today. It’s the little things that can make the biggest difference!
