National Day News- Recognizing California
Wait, there is a day dedicated to California? Yes, there is! Today, February 22, celebrates the Golden State and it’s history.
Manifest Destiny and the Mexican American War played a big role in making California a part of U.S. territory. Eventually, Mexico sold California for 15 million dollars, while under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Fast- forward to 1849, and the major gold rush became a game changer like no other. In 1850 in September, two years after the gold rush, California became the 31st state.
Now, the geography portion of California is not what you think. Not every day is filled with sunny skies and windy days. California’s climate is very diverse. From surfing the beaches in the summer to skiing down California’s mountains in the winter, this state holds a wet and dry climate.
What about Hollywood? Hollywood is known for the actors, actresses, and movies. While Hollywood wasn’t the origin of film making, Hollywood made moving pictures thrive.
